Chilean Mesquite
Description
Description
The Chilean Mesquite stands tall and proud, reaching heights of up to 30 feet at maturity. Its wide canopy provides ample shade for lazy afternoons in Southern California. With its distinctive twisted branches, vibrant green leaves, and rich reddish-brown bark, it adds a burst of color to any eco-friendly garden. This hardy tree is well-suited to hot, dry climates and requires little maintenance, making it a natural fit for homeowners seeking a unique and practical addition to their outdoor space.
Care Instructions
Care Instructions
The Chilean Mesquite grows best in areas with at least 6 hours of full sun exposure each day. During the first year after planting, water every 7 to 10 days, but once established, little to no supplemental water is needed. Avoid regularly watering mature specimens, which can lead to weak wood and a shallow root system. Young trees require pruning for shape and to prevent crossed branches and sprout growth around wounds. Mature trees should be pruned in late fall to raise and thin the canopy and remove occasional suckers and water sprouts.
